These days, a quietness lingers, doesn’t it? The boisterous hum and shimmer of the New Year have ebbed away, leaving a soft hush that settles over us like a familiar, comforting blanket. And that, despite the long lists with things to do, the plans and activities lined up, all waiting for us to tackle them one by one…
I find myself retreating inward, drawn to the stillness, seeking sanctuary in solitude. In these moments, I turn to scribbling—small fragments of thought that spill onto the page like pieces of a puzzle yet to reveal its final picture. Some days, life feels like a puzzle with too few pieces, frustratingly incomplete. Other days, it’s overwhelming—a tangle of surplus pieces that refuse to fit, no matter what I try.
In the January’s newsletter I proposed a year of Journaling. Being myself a person who thinks better on paper, I cannot promote it enough. It is an amazing outlet for all those bottled-up emotions and feelings, for those overthought thoughts, for those salty tears and utter joys altogether.
Here below a few ideas if you start this practice in the New Year. And no, it is not too late for a new addition to your ideas for bettering yourself
How to Start Journaling: A Rather Simple Method
- Set the Scene: Find a quiet, comfortable spot and light a candle or play calming music. This helps signal your brain that it’s time to slow down and focus.
- Use a Timer: Start with 5-10 minutes. Knowing there’s a set time reduces pressure.
- Choose a Prompt: Pick one idea from the list above or simply write, “Today, I feel…”
- Write Freely: Don’t worry about grammar or structure. Let your thoughts flow naturally.
- Reflect, Don’t Judge: After writing, take a moment to reread your entry. Notice any patterns or insights without being critical of yourself.
I encourage you to commit to this practice for January and see how it transforms your mindset, helping you find clarity, focus, and calmness. And let me know how it works, okay?
